I'm at home, sick with a major cold. I feel mostly gross and a little bit twitchy, but I also appreciate the fact that I got sick a week after my holiday, not during or (oh god) on that horrible plane. So, uh, well done on timing, germs?

Anyway, it lets me write LJ posts about the JLPT, where I tried to pass the N3 in July.

I passed!

This is mainly relevant because I really didn't want to agonize about 'so should I take it again or just let it go', and now I won't have to. ^_^

A comparison with what I expected directly after the test:

Part 1: Vocabulary & kanji
Expected: 80%
Result: 75%

Part 2: Grammar & Reading
Expected: 40-50%
Result: 51%

Part 3: Listening:
Expected: 50-60%
Result: 83%

I was reasonably on the mark with my expectations in two sections, but totally off for Listening. That one still puzzles me, tbh.

I was getting a little less sure of myself regarding vocabulary and kanji once I realised about scaled scores. They don't tell you how exactly they do it, but once I realised the points couldn't be '1 point per 1 correct answer', I figured they would weigh the difficult 'how is this word really used' type questions more heavily than the easy 'what is the on reading of this kanji' questions, and the usage questions was where I'd done far more badly than on the cramming ones. But I'm still not that far off from what I expected.

(BTW: I'm honestly puzzled why the results sheets split the first part into 'vocabulary and grammar'. I don't remember it having an awful lot of grammar (unless maybe they mean by 'grammar' the 'how is this word really used' type questions?), and the much trickier grammar stuff was in the reading section. I remember because that's where I went, 'Fuck, I really need to focus more on grammar.' Am I being stupid? Do they use a weird definition of grammar? Were these never the droids I was looking for?)

Totally off in my Listening assessment. O____o I mean, what? Honestly, I don't know what happened there, I spent so much of that last half hour utterly confused.

Anyway, now I can be pleased I passed a test that is not really relevant for anything except how it pleases me when I pass it and it is associated with raaaaaamen. ^_^

That's brilliant, especially about the listening. Congratulations! ^_^ (And I hope the cold clears up soon. They really should not be allowed to descend on people in August, of all months. I mean, it's still technically summer, right?)
